PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are toxic chemicals that cause widespread, costly pollution in our environment and are a threat to human health. PFAS are linked to increased cholesterol, changes in liver enzymes, decreases in infant birth weights, increased risk of high blood pressure or pre-eclampsia in pregnant women, and increased risk of kidney or testicular cancer.
This amendment bans the use of PFAS in specific consumer products, such as apparel, ski wax, cookware, cosmetics, carpets and textiles, and juvenile products.
