Legislation went into effect this month that will help keep toxic chemicals out of our households (Minn. Stat. § 325F.071). The bill, supported by Conservation Minnesota and passed in 2019, phases out dangerous synthetic flame retardants from products intended for children under 12, and in any upholstered residential furniture, mattress, or other window or wall coverings.
This is a major win for creating safer and healthier homes for families across Minnesota. Removing these toxic chemicals helps prevent children from harmful exposure while also removing a dangerous hazard for firefighters.
Conservation Minnesota is committed to making Minnesota a healthier place to live by removing toxic chemicals from our air, water, and consumer products. Read more about our ongoing work to ban toxic flame retardants.
